Inspiring The Next Generation - Student Site Visits
Over the past two months, Stevens Group had the privilege of hosting students from
Playford International College and Findon Technical College for site visits at our Adelaide
facility.
Both visits formed part of our ongoing commitment to engage with local schools and provide
students with a closer look at the structural steel industry – not just what we build, but how
we build careers.

Hands-On Exposure to Structural Steel
Each group heard directly from members of our team, who spoke candidly about the many
career pathways available in our industry. From estimating and detailing to workshop
operations, fabrication, and project delivery, the students were given a well-rounded
introduction to the different trades and technical roles involved in bringing steel structures to
life.
The visits concluded with a guided tour through our workshop and apprentice shed, offering
students a glimpse into real-world working conditions and the kind of teamwork and
precision our projects demand.

Early Exposure Matters
For students in Years 10 to 12, work experience plays a critical role in shaping future
pathways. These are the years when many start to make decisions about further education,
training, and career direction. Site visits like these give students a practical understanding of
what different roles involve and can help them make more informed choices – or even spark
a new interest they hadn’t considered.

Engaged Students, Generous Staff
It was particularly encouraging to see the level of interest from both student groups – their
thoughtful questions and genuine curiosity made the visits highly worthwhile. We’re also
grateful to the staff at Stevens who carved out time to present and engage with the students.
Their openness and enthusiasm made a strong impression and helped demystify what a
future in construction could look like.

Looking Ahead
As with previous school engagements, these visits are part of a broader effort to support
practical learning and connect with the emerging talent pipeline. We believe in creating
opportunities for young people to explore the industry and to see firsthand the role they
could play in it – whether through work experience, apprenticeships, or future employment.
If you're an educator interested in arranging a visit or learning more about our apprenticeship
program, we welcome your enquiry.
